The Appeal

Designed by Ian Callum, and unveiled at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, the V12 Vanquish was a Grand Tourer for the fresh millennium. This was the company’s new flagship - a powerful, beautifully styled, evocative tourer that embodied much of the luxury brand’s heritage, without staying too far in the past.

The result was a heavily lauded, much-loved and super-aspirational car, one that’s appeared in films, video games, and more. After all, it’s perhaps the most legendary of the 21st century Bond Cars…

This example comes to us in impeccable condition, with low mileage, a plentiful service record and a fresh MOT.

The Interior

Beautifully presented, the Vanquish is a luxurious, cosseting experience that reassures and relaxes the driver. Comfortable cream leather seats, an attractive colour scheme, plenty of options and full climate control ensure that both passenger and driver want for nothing. Saying that, it’s far from your traditional Aston experience - no veneers, and not a scrap of that old-timey feel the company were once so recognised for.

In its place, everything is practical and minimalistic. The blue and cream dashboard is attractive and nicely presented, with contrasting red hands on the bright silver dials. The big centre console stands out boldly with plenty of push-button controls and features, with every one clear of reported faults or issues.

The seats are nicely kept with no rips or tears we can discern, and only the gentlest patina of wear to the bolsters - something that echoes to the centre compartment and the door cards, which are still looking very healthy for their age, and are trimmed in the gentlest lashings of steel.

The original Aston Martin mats, headlining and carpets are in exceptional order, blending leather with Alcantara in style and finishing off the unique duotone look. The Aston Martin branding, sill plates and detailing are all in excellent order, proudly carrying the heritage brand’s prestige.

The boot is in fine fettle, nicely lined with a tool kit, CD changer and fire extinguisher.

The Exterior

With its distinctive grille, flowing lines and gentle silver trims, the Aston Martin Vanquish is an instantly recognisable piece of automobile design. Modern, while maintaining the brand’s essential character, this is a curvy, elegant and distinctly sporty looker.

Everything here is in good order, with the Mendip blue paintwork beautifully presented and lacking any signs of severe wear to the paintwork. We can’t spot any scratches or paint loss, the car’s bodywork appears free of bubbles, dents and dings, and it’s all well-fitted together - as you’d expect for the last true Newport Pagnell hand-built Aston Martin.

The car is sparingly trimmed in silver, with its brightly presented grille looking superb, the glasswork and lenses all free of cracks or fractures, and the car’s all-essential branding present and correct, setting a rich contrast against the Mendip Blue.

The sills and the arches look good and solid, giving reassuring signs for the underneath of the car.

The car is sitting on its original 19” Silver Split Rim alloys, complete with Aston Martin’s branding - which appear to be free of scuffs, scratches and cracks. Each one is wearing a new Yokohama tyre with plenty of tread.

The Mechanics

Opening up the car’s bonnet reveals an incredibly impressive powerplant. The 5.9L V12 is a 460hp behemoth that’s beautifully capped by Aston Martin’s branding. It’s reassuringly big and tactile, with the engine bay evidently being clean, well-cared for and free of any concerns.

The brand-new MOT is clear of advisories, and we’ve been advised of no leaks, excessive smoke, bangs or knocks from the engine. The car is reportedly starting, shifting and running exactly as you’d expect, with that highly impressive spec making for sublime performance.

There’s no denying it - the moment this car kicks into life, you’ll be firmly reminded that you’re behind the wheel of an all-out automotive legend.

Summary

Destined to become one of the most-desired modern classics, this V12 Vanquish just about ticks all of the boxes - and should be the jewel in the crown of any garage.
