The Appeal

The hot hatch crown pinballed between Volkswagen and Peugeot until the arrival of the Focus. Ford’s all new car finally nabbed the crown. The second generation was even better, delivering more power from a bigger, 5cyl turbocharged engine. These are scintillating cars and no wonder Auto Express named it Best Hot Hatch in the same year that this car was first registered.

It is finished in stand-out Electric Orange metallic - and you will want to stand out in a ST - and is the elevated ST-2 model. The condition is impressive and a testament to its handful of keepers, who have also kept the mileage down to well below average levels.

Inside and out the car looks standard but a discreet boot badge reveals its secret weapon - it has the Mountune 260PS kit that includes alloy intercooler, high performance K&N filter and ECU modifications.

All too often STs look like they have been enjoyed a little too much. Not so this car. The alloys, bodywork, paintwork and interior indicate how cherished it has been. That is a point underlined by the history file and its long, advisory-free MOT.

These are viscerally exciting cars and this one looks like a future classic.
