The Honda Civic has long been the trusted companion for many a commuter and enthusiasts alike, renowned for its near bulletproof durability, and excellent economy. The Type R models however are no grocery-getters; instead offering high-performance variants of Honda’s flagship platform. 

The EP3 is of course the second Civic Type R generation produced, based upon the 7th gen Civic. The EP3 Type R boasts the legendary K20A2 powerplant under the bonnet, along with a perfectly suited and well-balanced chassis to suit. The Premier Edition spec takes these characterful hot hatches to an even greater level, with Recaro Trendline seats, Type R brake calipers, and interior tweaks. 

As is often the case with enthusiast cars and hot hatches, EP3 Civics are a popular choice to modify and enhance, leaving many with non-standard components. This particular example, however, is completely standard and rather remarkably shows only 14k on the clock. As a result, this example presents a superb investment opportunity, be that as a collection piece or low mileage blank canvas to enjoy however you wish. 

This EP3 is easily one of the few to show such a low mileage figure, sitting at just 14,610 miles, with only the 4 former keepers. This really is a remarkably low mileage example when compared to the majority of other examples, and by Honda’s standards, this is hardly broken in. 

Over the years, the vehicle has been regularly serviced, as supported by the stamped service booklet, and invoices from Vertu Honda. As this Civic has covered so few miles, it should come as no surprise that the car has required very little over the years, other than regular consumables, wheel alignment, and air conditioning re-fills. 

Also included alongside main dealer invoices, are the original handbooks, spare wheel nuts, and the V5C document ready for the next lucky keeper. 

The interior of this EP3 shows off a very well-preserved finish, along with the Premier Edition model-specific interior goodies, such as the MOMO steering wheel, Recaro seats, and red detailing throughout. As you would perhaps expect given the low mileage figure shown, the interior is in fantastic condition with almost no signs of use. 

Both Recaro front seats present themselves very well, with perhaps only the slightest amount of wear found to the driver’s Alcantara bolster section. That being said, you are very unlikely to notice this, and the seats remain as functional as ever, near capable of matching a brand new set. The rear seats, of course, have seen far less use over the years, and present themselves without any noticeable flaws. 

The red carpeting throughout the cabin is also in fantastic condition, having benefitted from the protection of both the original Type R floor mats and then a set of protective rubber mats over the top. Headlining and door cards follow suit, seemingly showing no visible signs of age. 

The cabin also features an Alpine head unit, which is believed to be the only aftermarket component fitted to the vehicle. This, of course, can always be easily replaced with an original EP3 unit if purity is desired in the future. That being said, the head unit is in excellent working order, as are all other controls, instruments, and features throughout the cabin. In keeping with the mileage, contact points for controls also show absolutely minimal wear. 

The EP3 shows off an instantly recognizable profile, packed with hot hatch styling, and Type R details. It’s a design that still stands out 20 years later, and offers endless potential for further styling if desired. 

This particular vehicle truly is an impressive example, showing off a superb Cosmic Grey finish, with very little to fault. In fact, other than a few expected micro stone chips to the front end, there is seemingly only one noticeable defect on the bonnet, which has been touched in as pictured. Otherwise, you will genuinely struggle to find fault with how the paintwork presents itself even after all these years. 

The car shows off Type R detailing, and facelifted cosmetic styling, much to the vehicle’s benefit. The front Honda badge does appear to show minor signs of age with the lamination but hardly detracts from the overall appearance. Otherwise, all trim components and details are in excellent condition with no noticeable marks. 

Keeping this sporty Civic planted to the ground is the OEM set of 17” alloy wheels and a matching set of Bridgestone tyres with enough tread left to enjoy. Having been previously refurbished, the wheels look superb and show no noticeable defects. A peek behind the front wheels will also reveal the Premier Edition specific Type R adorned brake calipers. 

This Civic Type R is easily one of the more standout examples available today, and shows off a superbly preserved exterior finish. With only a few incredibly minor marks noticeable upon very close inspection, you will certainly struggle to find an original EP3 in this fine of a condition. 

If you know your Hondas, you’ll likely already be familiar with the brand’s tendency to bless enthusiasts with their rev-happy 4 cylinders. The EP3 packs the now legendary K20A2 lump, renowned for its bullet-proof durability and endless desire to be pushed to the limits. This platform also responds well to bolt-on modifications and offers abundant tuning and performance potential.

This particular example has only covered a mere 14,610 miles, which is hardly anything by regular standards, let alone for a Honda. As a result, and thanks to regular main dealer servicing, this EP3 fires up right away, and happily delivers hours of fun throughout the rev range.

Suspension and brake components also work exactly as intended, leaving the lucky new owner with a hot hatch that is well and truly ready to be enjoyed as intended.

The vehicle is in fantastic condition both inside and out, no doubt a result of the low mileage covered and excellent care shown to the car. This Civic also has an excellent main dealer servicing history, and now performs without a single known fault.
