The Appeal
Such is the Mustang’s cultural reach that there are many different flavours to choose from. But perhaps none are as flavoursome as the Highland Green ‘67 driven by Frank Bullitt, aka motoring’s Mr Ice Cold Cool, Steve McQueen.
Ford certainly thought so, because in 2008 it announced the ‘Bullitt’ version of the fifth-generation ‘Stang. 5,582 were built, including 3,041 in classic Highland Green, and they all sold out instantly. Each car received Bullitt detailing, including Dark Argent Grey alloys, bespoke black leather interiors, badging, and an exhaust tuned to replicate the sonorous rumble of McQueen’s car as it ripped through San Francisco’s mean streets.
This 2009 Bullitt is a particularly fine example because it has covered less than 30,000 miles from new in the hands of just two keepers, the current one since 2011. The result is a car in rude health, being both factory correct and highly preserved.
The history file supports the sense of a well-kept car. It is a point also underlined by the MOT, which runs to March 2026 with no advisories. A great modern take on a movie icon.
