1952 Alvis TA21 Drophead Coupe - coachwork by Tickford
Making its debut in March 1950 at the Geneva Motor Show, the 3 Litre TA21 was available as a four door saloon or a Drophead Coupe with coachwork by Tickford. The latter was a particularly handsome motor car with styling that has truly stood the test of time.
The 3 litre engine which featured 7 main bearings, developed 83 bhp - sufficient to ensure lively performance and brisk acceleration. Fixtures and fittings were of the usual high quality which was the hallmark of Alvis.
There’s a subtle difference in that because it doesn’t have the higher back axle ratio of the TC its top speed is more like 95 mph but it probably gets there quicker as it’s got a TD 21 cylinder head on it matched to the lower back axle ratio.
The striking 1952 example we offer is finished in Peony red with fawn hide trim and matching hood. It has been restored to a high standard and won a concours award at an Alvis Owner Club event last Summer. Fitted with a TD21 cylinder head , this car remained in the hands of a previous owner for over 40 years.
One of just 302 Drophead Coupes built, this car has been carefully maintained and is offered with three files of service history showing considerable expenditure . To assist with modern motoring conditions, hazard lights are fitted. There is also a USB point and power steering certainly makes a difference, especially at low speeds.
An ideal motor car for long distance touring, she has considerable road presence and attracts much interest.
