The Riley March Special is a sportier replacement for the Gamecock model which was manufactured between 1931/ 32. The Earl of March, who had a long history of racing and competition and was a partner of Kevill Davies and March Ltd, designed the body.
It was built on the same chassis as the earlier Gamecock and featured a 2 plus 2 cabin area with a rear mounted 12 gallon fuel tank with twin fillers and twin spare wheels,
This superb example of a March Special was registered in March 1933. It has a standard Riley 9 chassis and special series engine e. g. twin carbs mated to an all helical gearbox and coil ignition.
Colour is Italian Racing Red, confirmed by Styles and the original owner who has met the current owner.
The history of the car is on file with the exception of the 20 years from 1935 to 1955. The present owner bought it in 1996 when it needed significant attention. Brian Lloyd Jacob masterminded the project. He enlisted John Crofts for a lot of the mechanical work, while Brian himself did the engine and gearbox. Larry Rose did the upholstery and hood. The bodywork was repaired and powder coated by Janes of Flitwick.
Since that time the Riley has covered some 14, 000 miles and been to nearly all the Coventry Rallies from 2000 until Covid, so the car is well known in the Riley Register.
A beautifully presented car as evidenced by the pictures with a comprehensive history file and with great attention to detail thanks to it`s fastidious owner.
