The Mini Cooper club have fully verified its originality and its original number plate.
Red with black Roof. Great fun to drive. Only 68690 miles from new. Original Shell and panels, even mostly original factory paint, hence the 60's stone chips and usage looks to the paint. We have decided not to repaint it to keep it unique.
This has been dry stored since 1976. We have spentover 7 years of careful sympathetic recommissioning to reuse as many of the original parts as possible. Painstaking renovation of components to keep it as original and factory built as possible. All the interior has simply been cleaned, all there accept the bottom card inside the bottom of the drivers door pocket. The underside has been stripped, primed, and repainted, then covered in clear wax.
It is interesting since it has some Paddy Hopkirk accessories such as the aluminium accelerator pedal, wing mirrors, fitted from new, central roof ariel plus the wooden steering wheelm, original top tint windscreen.
Plus of course the period usual switch extensions on the dash and drivers door rubber flector. A full early Britax sunroof, pre Webasto infact, which still works fine with the folding sundim tinted wind deflector. Original front seat belts.
The boot has the correct and original Cooper wooden floor piece in grey, the spare wheel is also the same Dunlop alloy. We waited 5 years for Vintage Tyres to remake the Dunlop SP Sport in the correct 165 10 inch for these wheels. Hydro suspension has been refilled and pumped up. All OK.
The original cross plies were still on the car which we have saved along with other items. The brake pipes, the fuel pipes, the suspension pipes, the water hoses are all new. The carbs are refurbed, the engine overhauled ( perfect bores) the rad is original, checked and flushed, the dizzy is original with new points and condenser.
The HT leads and plugs are new but the same make as original, Champion. The coil and dynamo are checked, refurbed and original. The water heater valve is new and the only bit we could not get original ( frustrating). The clutch is new, the rear subframe is new, several coats of paint plus plenty of clear wax.
The Cooper exhaust and three branch manifold is new. The chrome is original and therefore not perfect. Fan belt new, oil and fuel filters new, fuel pump overhauled and refitted, brakes all new components but original discs fiited at a service in the 60's. Ball joints replaced, wheel bearings, new front bump stop rubbers.
New battery with security cut off. Original wiper arms with new rubber blades. Working original electric accessory windscreen washer. Original radio, not refitted yet. New driver and passenger door window runners.
MOT May 2008, I have had it on the road since last May but only driven in totally dry weather.
