The Appeal
Don't let its diminutive size fool you. The Singer Le Mans was among the most celebrated sports cars of the early 1930s. Its twin-carburettor 972cc engine and close-ratio four-speed gearbox gave it a genuine competitive edge in period, and this particular example has the history to prove it. Between 1934 and 1937, under the ownership of Leslie MacDonald, it contested no fewer than 35 Trials events, collecting Bronze Medals, Silver Medals, and outright First places along the way.
What truly distinguishes this car is the remarkable depth of its provenance. A history folder accompanies it, packed with magazine listings, period photographs, competition records, and contemporary press coverage spanning its active competition years. Post-war ownership is also well documented. Very few pre-war sporting cars of any marque survive with this calibre of paperwork and photographic evidence.
On the road, the vendor reports it remains lively and responsive, very much in keeping with its original sporting character. It is said to start on the button, with the engine and gearbox in good working order. Presented in black over red leather, the vendor rates every aspect of the car very highly indeed.
For those seeking a pre-war sports car with genuine competition heritage and the documentation to back it up, this Singer Le Mans warrants serious attention.IMG_9858 Xin.jpeg233.88 KB
