The Appeal
The high-performance Twin Cam variant of the MGA is one of the most coveted British sports cars of the late 1950s. With its twin overhead camshaft 1,588cc engine producing 108bhp, Dunlop disc brakes all round, and knock-on centre-lock wheels, it represented a significant step up from the standard car and remains highly desirable today, while maintaining the legendary streamlined silhouette. Just 2,111 were built, and survivors in good order are increasingly hard to find.
This particular example, presented in Iris Blue with black trim, was previously based in the dry, car-friendly climate of Australia. The car is believed to have been raced extensively here in period, adding a layer of competition provenance to its story.
Between 1995 and 2015, the car underwent an extensive restoration believed to have cost in the region of $100,000 AUD. It was subsequently acquired from the Gosford Museum in 2018 and returned to the UK, where it was serviced by a specialist before the current owner acquired it in 2021.
