The Appeal

The E-Type was a car that summated the sixties. Everything about it felt sleek, sexy, and expressive, perfect for an era of fashion statements and extravagance. Designed by the legendary aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer, this car transcends its circumstance and catapults itself into a pure pop-culture icon. Even the most casual layman can identify an E-Type at a glance.

The monocoque bodywork and suspension were also very advanced for their era, and they went on to inform decades of saloon design thereafter. Finish off the entire package with the much-lauded XK hardware - a 3.8-litre engine with triple carburettors and high compression head - and you've got amongst one of the finest, fastest production cars of its era, capable of 150mph and still looking fast even when it was standing still.

This example was originally shipped to New York when built, and arrived back on British soil in 1973. A comprehensive restoration later, the car has had only two owners, and has been cosseted to an exacting standard. We're convinced it may be amongst the best examples we've seen, with the Opalescent Dark Green livery shining beautifully.

This fabulous E-Type is being supplied with an impressive paperwork file, heritage certificate and the cherished registration plate.

The Condition

Those curvy, sinuous lines were really what set the E-Type light years beyond its period contemporaries, and this car perfectly captures them in that attractive Opalescent livery. It's free of any substantial dents, dings, or corrosion and has recently been treated to a set of new wire wheels and tyres—adorned with two new spinners, to boot.

We've no reports of anything of concern to the underside; the badges and branding are still proudly sat where they should be, and the entire vehicle is beautifully finished off with those period registration plates.

A car so beautifully designed requires an interior to match, and the E-Type continued those organic curves and lines in style. The bucket seats here are beautifully presented in Suede Green and are free of any damage we've been able to highlight. The dashboard is clean and nicely kept, with legible instruments and a beautiful branded wood-trimmed steering wheel.

The condition wraps around impressively to the boot space, headlining and carpets - which are all in fine order. It's an incredibly rare thing to find an E-type in such an impressive level of upkeep, and we're sure it'll attract plenty of admiration.

The Mechanics

The XK powerplant cemented the E-Type's reputation. It's all well and good for a car to be a looker, but Jaguar's eye for performance really cemented its status as a class leader. It's an intensely capable roadster, with the top speed of the 3.8L engine reaching just a whisker under 150 miles per hour.

This example has recently been treated to plenty of work, including a full service, leak repairs, new plugs, filters and cables and the carbs setting. The result is that it's ready and waiting to be driven away.

Works carried out:

Labour to check over, carry out compression check, investigate fuel leak from carburettors, replace jet diaphragm assemblies on all three carbs, remove thermostat, clean up area, replace with new thermostat, replace leaking coolant drain on side of engine block, remove old number plates, replace with new registration number, fit new choke cable, add in blower motor resistor to allow for two blower speeds, replace copper washer on fuel drain, stick loose carpets. down, service including air filter, spark plugs, replace track rod end boots, fit new bonnet catch with nut plate & set carburettors.
