The Appeal
Volkswagen’s beautiful Type 2 is a blank canvas on which enthusiasts have exercised their enthusiasm for these wonderful, characterful vans.
The original ‘Splittie’ was gradually evolved during its life, most obviously gaining a larger rear door – known as the T1c – but the van’s ongoing development through subsequent models into the 80s means there are innumerable ways to improve and upgrade them. All of which stay true to the Volkswagen origins.
This gorgeous ’65 RHD T1c is a wonderful blend of originality and improvement. Comprehensively restored around 7 years ago and with sparing use since, it features a superb Laura Ashley-inspired interior and is fitted with a 1.8litre engine to improve usability. The quality of the work and its condition shine out from the photos – this is one not to miss.
History and Paperwork
- First UK registered on 16th September 1965
- Nine owners from new with current owner since 31st March 2022
- Appears to have been extensively restored in 2016 with raft of parts and repair invoices
- This included an engine rebuild costing £3,471.48 using a 1.8litre motor
- Retrimmed in July 2017 using Laura Ashley fabrics at a cost of over £4,220
- Bodywork refurbishment by marque specialist in 2017 totalling over £4,300
- Invoices for mechanical refurbishment and improvement in July and August 2016
- This work included a Vintage Speed sports exhaust and totalled over £3,500
