The Appeal
They're often labelled the 'thinking man's supercar', and it's not difficult to see why. Solid, dependable machinery might not be what most consider a feature of this aspirational class of motor, but a good 911 has it in droves. It's not too extravagant; it's certainly not too pedestrian - and, beautifully, remains recognisable from a single glance, no matter which angle you look at it from.
It's a masterclass of design - always has been, really - and the 3.2 Carrera, officially introduced in 1984, was no slouch. This was the last of the 'original' 911s, and what a send off. Rekindling the now-familiar Carrera name, it offered an impressive boost of horsepower, and plenty of attention towards reliability. The result was a sales sheet that brought smiles to Stuttgart - 76,473 cars in total.
Of course, a relatively scarce 19,987 cars were cabriolets like this one - more the pity. A top-down sports car is never going to lose its appeal, but getting the wind in your hair in a 911 is a pleasure few get afforded to themselves. We'd recommend putting your bid in the ring if you're yet to experience it.
