The Appeal
The 1980s hot hatch wars had an unusual habit of elevating humdrum hatchbacks to greatness. Few got more humdrum than Toyota’s Corolla, and few became as great as the Corolla Twin Cam GT.
Equipped with a body colour body kit, spoilers, sports seats and, most importantly, Toyota’s fizzy 4A-GE 130bhp 16V twin cam 1.6L engine, the Corolla was the connoisseur’s alternative to a Golf or Escort. Today few survive, which makes this ‘barn find’ 1987 car a proper treat.
The vendor is a marque enthusiast and collector. He acquired the car in 2004 and placed it into dry storage with the rest of his collection in 2009. It was started every few months until COVID but has been untouched since. For buyers, this means it will require some checks and likely recommissioning.
Canny buyers will spot the opportunity. The car is original and factory-standard and presents in good order beneath the storage dust. The interior is particularly preserved, right down to the Toyota radio cassette. We look forward to seeing this brilliant driver’s car back where it belongs - on the road.
