In fact, Fiat's engineers were able to capitalise on the essential, squared-off shape of their small car, creating the famous 4x4 version in 1983: it was the first mass-produced transverse-engined small car with four-wheel drive. Even today, it is probably one of the best small off-road vehicles: after all, it must also be acknowledged that it does not have much competition.
