Since its launch, the Fiat Panda has been loved for its extraordinarily practical and versatile nature, its affordable price and its ease and economy of handling. All these characteristics also made it a perfect basis for a 4x4 version. In fact, Fiat's engineers were able to capitalise on the essential, squared-off shape of their small car, creating the famous 4x4 version in 1983: it was the first mass-produced transverse-engined small car with four-wheel drive. Even today, it is probably one of the best small off-road vehicles: after all, it must also be acknowledged that it does not have much competition.
