The Appeal
There’s no doubt that the Ian Callum-designed DB7 saved Aston Martin’s bacon, selling over 7,000 cars at a time when the company desperately needed it. And, let’s face it, the sales success was well deserved: just look at it. Designed from the outset as a coupe and convertible, it looks gorgeous in either configuration.
Add to that a monster V12 engine and, in this case, a rare manual gearbox, and you have a stunning combination that is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. This example has seen a great deal of love and attention with a comprehensive main dealer history shown in the service book and a variety of invoices for other work. It is also being freshly serviced before being put up for auction.
In great condition and with the bonus of a factory sports exhaust, this is a beautiful grand touring convertible that should appeal to the keen driver too. Don’t miss out.
History and Paperwork

The Interior

When you climb aboard this DB7, it’s every bit as luxurious as you would hope with thick-piled carpet, soft leather seats and walnut on the dashboard. Recent work to refurbish the leather means that it’s all in good condition, too, with only slight creasing to the driver’s seat hinting at the car’s age and mileage. The rear seats, meanwhile, look to be largely unused.
The green Wilton carpets have been protected by fully fitted plastic mats from new and show almost no wear at all, and the seller tells us that all of the buttons, switches and gauges work just as they should and that there are no warning lights illuminated.
The original wind deflector is also supplied, though never used by the current owner. The boot is very clean and tidy and under the boot floor is a space saver spare, full tool kit and a recently renewed battery. Of more interest on a regular basis, there is a genuine Aston Martin umbrella stashed under the boot lid.
In all, it’s a very comfortable place to spend time and it’s easy to imagine crossing continents with ease, roof up or down.
The Exterior

The DB7 design remains timeless and here is complemented by light metallic green paintwork which brings to mind the various shades of green that have been applied to Aston Martin’s racing cars over the years.
With paintwork that is generally in first class order with no visible evidence of any accident repairs, the owner tells us that any stone chips have been promptly attended to but there are some minor scratches out of sight on the underside of the front spoiler.The window glass is free of any chips or scratches.
All the wheels have been checked for trueness and refurbished and there are no 'kerbing' marks. The front tyres have covered fewer than 500 miles and there is plenty of tread (5mm+) on the rear tyres.
The forest green hood goes up and down as it should. It has been regularly cleaned and treated and shows no wear on any of the corners. The original fern green tonneau cover is also in excellent order.
Underneath, the investment in Waxoyle and Lanogaurd has clearly paid dividends as it’s all looking very clean. Overall, it’s a superb looking car that has clearly been very well cared for.
The Mechanics

The car starts on the button and the seller reports that during regular use in his ownership, it’s never missed a beat. On the road, it certainly feels all together and while the sports exhaust provides a rousing soundtrack, it’s not quite as raucous as some of Aston Martin’s later offerings, which makes it a relaxed grand tourer.
Keen drivers will, however, enjoy the rarely-specified manual gearbox which is fitted to this car which we’re told is smooth, fast and positive. It certainly appeared to be bringing a smile to the driver’s face during a test ride along a rural B road!
Summary
A lovely example of the V12 grand touring convertible that, with the presence of a manual gearbox, can be enjoyed to the full.
