This beautiful 280SL has just 44k miles from new and has only had three owners – the second since 1985 until 2022.
Supplied new by Simpsons Garage, Bexley, in September 1982. Finished in Classic White with light brown (Dattel) cloth interior and a contrasting dark brown hood.
The first owner kept the car for three years at which point it was sold again by Simpsons to its second owner, a Mr Reddin.
Reddin had a Volvo for everyday use, so the Mercedes SL was strictly a high day and holiday car, always garaged and never taken out in bad weather. We acquired the car after he passed away and supplied the car to its third owner.
As a result, this SL is in exceptional, original condition. It has never been restored, it retains its original paint and has never needed any corrosion repair. R107s are very hard to find like this.
The bulkhead is perfect and original, as are the rest of the usual R107 corrosion points.
Excellent brightwork and unmarked, bright, untarnished headlamps.
The interior reflects the car’s low mileage and cosseted life. It is in beautiful condition throughout with unworn, unfaded seat upholstery and carpeting.
The hood is the original in excellent condition. New hood windows and piping have just been fitted. Similarly, the hardtop is in superb condition, free from corrosion and still with the original dealer’s sticker in the back window.
All the original books come with car and a full history with receipts going back to the 80s.
In recent years the car has major service including transmission and differential fluid changes, along with a brake overhaul, replacement subframe bushes, new rear tyres and anything else needed. A stainless-steel exhaust system was fitted by the last owner a number of years ago. We will carry out another service for the buyer on point of sale.
It comes as no surprise that this R107 is a pleasure to drive. It is as content sitting at high speeds on the motorway as it is in city traffic. It feels lovely and tight to drive as low mileage, well cared for cars do.
Registered as a historic vehicle, so ULEZ, MoT and tax exempt.
With just three owners in 43 years and just 44k miles, this 280SL just how we like to find classic Mercedes – unmolested, unrestored and beautifully preserved.
