The Appeal

The Nash Ambassador was considered in period to be an upmarket vehicle, incorporating many technologically advanced features in its design and construction. For example, coil spring front independent construction.

If you’ve ever been in love with pre-war or Art Deco styled cars, but have concerns regarding the suitability of those cars to modern roads, then this 1947 Nash Ambassador deserves a close look.

This fully-restored 2-door Brougham-bodied car is usable today thanks to how advanced it was in period. The 3.8 litre OHV engine makes a respectable 112BHP and should return reasonable fuel consumption while doing so. You’ll even find an early form of climate control represented by the Nash “Weather Eye” heating and ventilation system.

With a photographic history of the car’s extensive restoration, this Nash Ambassador may represent a particularly vice-free way of experiencing Art Deco automotive Americana at its best.

The History and Paperwork

Built in 1947 and originally delivered to the USA (original USA title included).
Imported to the UK in 1989, where it sat in a barn until restored to its current condition.
Extensive restoration commenced in 2012 with a photographic restoration record to confirm the restoration work carried out.
Seller informs us that restoration work included “Full bare metal respray in 2K. All the chromework was removed and re-chromed by Doug Taylor in Weston-super-Mare. The interior and headliner were all stripped out and reupholstered, and new carpets made by J.S Trimmers of Bedminster including in the boot. The engine was taken out and totally rebuilt by Jamison‘s auto engineers in Bedminster. Gearbox was refurbished”.
Documentation also shows that the car has been a multiple show-winning car since its restoration.

The Condition

The general overall condition is excellent and in line with a car completely restored just over a decade ago.
Exterior bodywork appears to be immaculate with superb chrome and brightwork.
The recently reupholstered interior appears to be immaculate except for scuffs and a minor tear on the driver’s side seat bolster.
The car’s engine bay is pristine and appears to be period correct.
The vehicle’s underside shows only the weathering of a car that has seen light use for the last decade.
Overall, a really stunning example of the model.

Seller informs us of some welcome upgrades and enhancements, “The wheels were removed, shot blasted, and powder coated. I have since fitted a hydraulic servo, which is under the front wing with front disc brakes and an electric power steering system”
