The Appeal
When the task at hand was to make a quick version of its new Coupe, Audi didn’t mess with a winning formula. The simply-named S2 got an evolution of the Quattro’s 2.2L 20V motor and the same proven all-weather drivetrain.
This was Audi’s first ‘S’ car and it was, like its forebear, utterly brilliant. When new the car was perhaps too subtle to really engage with audiences, but that isn’t an issue now. Today collectors recognise a car that is arguably even better than the one it is modelled on.
This 1992 S2 is one of just 212 Broom Yellow cars, the colour that arguably defines this model. It is fresh from a two year ‘nut and bolt’ restoration finished in 2022. Since then it has covered very few miles. The work covered a full bodywork refurbishment and respray plus mechanical overhaul, including new brakes and a gearbox rebuild. The black leather interior has also been retrimmed. You can see just how extensive this work was in the photos.
The S2 is one of the greatest coupes of the 90s, which is saying something. This early car, with its 3B engine, is particularly collectable and in superb order. It comes to market with recent service and a technical inspection undertaken in June 2024.
