Highlights

- Earlier restoration in good overall condition
- Matching numbers
- Registered on a French Classic Car Registration Document
- Valid MOT until September 2028
The Appeal
The 190SL was Mercedes' attempt to conquer the American market, but only a very select small portion of it. Hand-built and extremely expensive, these magnificent cars were produced in limited numbers for an elite clientele. Only 3,949 were built in 1959, alongside this elegant white on red example.
We're told the car has undergone an earlier restoration. The work has held up well, with only minor signs of use to note on the paintwork, chrome and interior. This is the type of car you can use and enjoy, and one you can comfortably line up alongside equally prestigious machines at an elegant classic car gathering.
The car carries French classic registration and a current MOT valid until September 2028.
History and Documentation
- First registered in 1959
- Limited history accompanies the car
- Current MOT valid until September 2028
- The odometer reads 30,352 kilometres but could be higher given the five-digit odometer
Condition
- Seller reports a very attractive and straight bodyshell
- Described as an earlier restoration that presents well, though not a show winner
- White paintwork in good condition with a few minor localised spots to note
- Complete chrome with light patina to note
- Black folding fabric roof with red tonneau
- Steel wheels with factory chrome hub caps and steel spare wheel
- Red leather interior in good condition with matching carpets and dashboard
- Seats reported as comfortable with no major tears, cracks or stains
- Carpets are clean we're told
Whilst this car is an earlier restoration, it remains a very attractive example in a popular colour combination. There are a few localised areas to note in the photographs, but they don't appear to detract from the overall impression and could be accepted or addressed whilst enjoying the car.
Mechanics
- M121 1.9L four-cylinder engine
- Four-speed manual transmission
- Seller reports the car starts, runs, brakes and changes gear very well
- Requires a new battery
- Mechanical condition assessed as very good with few imperfections according to the seller
The 190SL's appeal stems largely from its robust and economical 1.9L M121 engine. We're told this car runs well, but would benefit from a new battery.
