The Appeal
The ‘Duck Tail’ Series 3 Spider channeled a new Aerodinamica style that Alfa’s engineers refined in the Grugliasco wind tunnel. The new spoilers and bumpers injected fresh energy into a design that harked back to the 1980s. To celebrate the 1983 launch, the firm introduced the ‘Triple Blue’ option, pairing attractive Aqua Blue metallic paint with a dark blue roof, plus blue door cards and dashboard.
That combination was only available for two years, and indications are that just 600 Triple Blue cars were ever built. This is one of them, and it’s likely among the earliest survivors. It spent its life in the appropriately warm and comfortable climes of California before arriving in France with the current keeper in 2021. He tells us the car has had just two previous keepers—the second from 1985 to 2021—who used it as a daily driver until it was exported.
In recent years, we’re told it’s been fully resprayed in the original color and fitted with a new roof, but it’s said to have never been welded and to retain its original sills. The stylish five-spoke Campagnolo road wheels have also been refurbished.
The vendor advises the car may need some mechanical reconditioning, as it’s been dry-stored and unused since arriving in France. Once done, the buyer gets one of the most stylish—and certainly rarest—of the very usable Series 3 cars.
