The Appeal
The Volkswagen camper van remains one of the most characterful and usable ways to explore the open road. More practical and affordable than its air-cooled predecessors, the Type 25 was a genuine, tourable van that offered utilitarian charm, a surprising level of cabin space and plenty of opportunity to create a comfortable camper conversion.
This 1989 example has been in the hands of one dedicated owner for approximately 23 years, serving faithfully as both everyday transport and holiday home. It has ventured to the west coast of France, northern Spain, Cornwall, Wales and the Lake District.
A reconditioned engine was fitted in 2010, and the van has benefited from significant structural and mechanical attention over the years, including welding, a new fuel tank and fuel pipes in 2014, and further work in 2023. The two-tone respray carried out in 2017 is reported to still present well, aided by indoor winter storage every year since. image.png1.46 MB
