The Appeal
Any car that’s good enough for Il Commendatore is good enough for us. In his dotage, Enzo Ferrari chose the Dino-engined Thema 8.32 as his personal transport. We can only admire his choice, because the 8.32 is surely one of the greatest saloon cars of the last 40 years.
Dropping the 2.9L F105L V8 under the Thema’s crisp Giugiaro lines created a sonorous, fire-breathing BMW M5 rival with proper provenance. Lancia could have chosen to dial up the visual drama, but wisely chose not to - only discreet badges, that electronic rear spoiler and five spoke alloys provide clues to these cars.
This 1991 example is finished in one of the 8.32’s best colours,Bordeaux Tramonto Mica, matched with a luxury black leather and walnut cabin. Inside and out the car is in very good condition, which supports the low displayed mileage of 126,808 kms. The history file shows a service and other work in 2021, with few miles since.
Rare and hugely entertaining, this is a great example of an increasingly lauded executive express.
