The Appeal
Flush with Ford investment, Jaguar quickly set about making the XJ40 a better car. The X300 returned the classic XJ look, notably the fluted bonnet, and quality was much improved. Equipped with the durable AJ6 engine, these mid-period XJ40-based cars are well-regarded by enthusiasts and make excellent daily drivers or weekend treats.
This 1996 4L X300 could best be described as a ‘time warp’ because it has been in careful dry storage since 2013. Finished in the popular combination of light blue metallic with doeskin leather, it is a really good example with the desirable elevated Sovereign spec. The usual X300 check areas, including arches, sills and screen bases, present well in the photos.
The car has had just two keepers in its life, the current one since 1998. MOT records support the dry storage information, with the last test expiring in February 2013. Due to the lack of use and MOT the car will likely need some checks and recommissioning. But the photos indicate a well-preserved and cared-for car.
