For the 1934/ 5 seasons, the Monaco, which was the cornerstone of the Riley range, underwent a number of changes. The most noticeable was the coachwork now being all aluminium instead of the semi fabric construction.
From 1934, the preselector gearbox was available as an option and was to prove very popular. Priced at £298, the Monaco continued to sell well until superseded from late 1935 by the steel bodied Merlin model.
Presented here is a 1934 Monaco, with the ENV preselector gearbox. The car has been the subject of considerable restoration work in recent years, as it was saved from the likelihood of being the basis of a special by the previous owner. Additional work has been carried out this year by marque specialists Blue Diamond Riley Services, this has included repairs to the gearbox and overhaul of the charging system.
Retaining its original distinctive Somerset registration number, this smart Monaco has its Driver’s Handbook and Maintenance Manual, plus a large number of bills, wiring diagrams etc.
