Following the takeover of BMC by British Leyland, all existing royalty agreements were discontinued, hence the Austin Healey Sprite lost it’s Healey designation and the last 1, 022 Sprites built at Abingdon in 1971 were rebadged Austin Sprite. This model was dropped entirely as it was identical to the MG Midget.
This Sprite was purchased in 2015 as a running restoration project having already received some replacement panels. The body appears to be reasonably sound although typically the floor area around the front rear leaf spring hangers needed attention. Sadly, this project remained in dry storage up until this sale and will hopefully find a new home for restoration.
