Description
This is a rather interesting BMW R80.
Originally registered on the 11th August 1980, and supplied by Alan Jefferies, it has been a UK bike from new. Records and old MOTs show that it had 5 previous owners, and had covered around 25k miles, prior to it being taken off the road and garaged in 2004. It was purchased by a good customer and friend of mine about a year ago, and Steve then set about a comprehensive re commissioning of the bike.
Not a comprehensive list, but work included:
. Engine, gearbox, shaft and bevel oils.
. Oil and air filters.
. Forks rebuilt, and new oil.
. Brakes rebuilt with new pistons, seal, pads and hoses (twin disc).
. New tyres.
. New plugs.
. New mirrors.
. New headlight ears.
. New steering lock and seat lock.
. Carbs fully overhauled by East Anglia Vapour Blasting.
. Clocks overhauled by Peter Bond.
. Valve clearances set.
. New handlebars.
. Mostly new cables.
. Etc, Etc.
The bike comes with Breakwell and Green stainless silencers (slight crease on near side) and of course the obligatory Krauser luggege. Paintwork is in the unusual factory scheme of dark grey metalic, with green coach lining, and although presentable, does have micro blistering to the lacquer on the tank.
Historic status, so MOT exempt, and free road tax.
Steve has done a great job of re commissioning the bike, and the options for its next custodian are to continue to improve it, or simply ride and enjoy it.
