C1950 FORD PILOT V8 - 84, 564 MILES - MATCHING NUMBERS - IS THIS THE BEST AVAILABLE...?
A superbly presented and increasingly rare example of Ford’s imposing post-war British V8, displaying 84, 564 miles and retaining the tremendous presence and character for which the Pilot has become so admired.
The Ford Pilot occupies an important place in British motoring history.
Developed as Ford Britain’s large post-war saloon, it combined substantial proportions and generous accommodation with the company’s famous V8 engine.
The result was a uniquely characterful British motor car, offering a level of performance and road presence quite unlike the majority of its contemporary rivals.
Today, the Pilot is a genuinely uncommon sight.
Only around 22, 000 examples were produced during its production run, and surviving cars are now increasingly scarce.
It is thought that there are less than 200 examples in the UK..
Good, usable examples with excellent presentation are particularly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of early Ford and British motoring.
This particular car is a wonderful example of the breed. It retains the imposing styling that makes the Pilot immediately recognisable, with its substantial wings, prominent grille, generous glass area and unmistakable 1950s proportions.
It has excellent road presence and possesses the sort of character that simply cannot be replicated by a modern car.
The V8 engine is central to the Pilot’s appeal. Smooth, torquey and accompanied by the distinctive soundtrack of an early Ford V8, it provides the effortless character one would expect from such a substantial motor car.
Of particular importance to collectors, this is a matching-numbers vehicle, retaining its original engine and corresponding major identifying numbers, adding considerably to its desirability and authenticity.
Inside, the Pilot’s spacious cabin retains the traditional character of a large 1950s British saloon.
The broad seating, large steering wheel and period instrumentation create an authentic and wonderfully nostalgic driving environment.
The car is particularly attractive in its black coachwork with contrasting tan leather upholstered interior.
The combination works exceptionally well on the substantial Pilot, with the black exterior accentuating its formal lines while the tan leather provides warmth and contrast inside. It gives the car a distinctly upmarket and period-correct appearance.
The vehicle is also recorded on its V5C registration document as an Historic Vehicle, an important point for the prospective owner and further confirmation of its status as a genuine historic motor car.
With its 84, 564 miles, matching-numbers status, Historic Vehicle classification, excellent presentation, desirable V8 engine and increasing rarity, this is a particularly appealing opportunity to acquire one of Ford Britain’s most distinctive post-war models.
