Description
With much regret I have to sell my classic 1971 tax free Volvo 144 Deluxe. I have owned this car for around three years and just do not get to use it. I believe it is unique in being in completely original condition, the speedo shows 48. 860 miles and the bodywork is completely rust free, there has been absolutely no welding done to the car and all the usual places that these cars would rust are immaculate. I have had it up on a ramp and the underside is perfect as are the wheel arches, spare wheel wells and sills. I understand from a previous owner that it was laid up in a barn for around twenty years and this would explain the condition, it certainly doesn't look as if its ever seen a salted road.
The car has its original tax disc holder from the supplying dealer and even has the original sticker with running in instructions on the windscreen. The red paint on the engine block is near perfect and the engine compartment and boot are immaculate. All manuals and documents are present.
It was originally my intention to strip the car down and get it resprayed in cellulose and prepare it for concours but the patina is so authentic I've kept it as it is. The paintwork is still good and could be improved but there are a few storage dings to the bonnet and bootlid so if you were thinking of showing a respray would be required to win prizes but the car is an ideal original candidate for concours. There is a small tear on the drivers seatback but I do have a NOS seat cover that could be used for a repair. I also have a pile of spares that I am happy to include.
So there it is a completely original rust free Volvo 144 that would make a great basis for further improvement. It has a MOT until November 2013 and is taxed for the same period.
