Hand-built W189 flagship saloon with fuel-injected straight-six power
The Appeal
The Mercedes-Benz 300D 'Adenauer' stands among the most revered post-war saloons to emerge from Stuttgart. A flagship model combining fuel-injected straight-six power with hand-built luxury, the W189 was produced in limited numbers and favoured by heads of state and dignitaries the world over. Finding one that has been comprehensively restored by a recognised specialist is a rare opportunity.
This particular 300D was sold new in the United States in 1963 to a US veteran. It spent many years under the stewardship of Albrecht Stachel at Brooklyn Motoren Werk in Brooklyn, Wisconsin, a name well regarded among Mercedes-Benz aficionados for their expertise with classic models from the marque. The car was subsequently exported to Europe, where it was entrusted to 300Manufaktur for a thorough restoration. The work encompassed the mechanical systems in their entirety, a full repaint of the exterior, and an entirely new interior.
The vendor describes the finished result as being in very nice condition. With its distinguished provenance, specialist restoration, and accompanying paperwork, this W189 300d represents a compelling proposition for collectors and enthusiasts of Mercedes-Benz's celebrated post-war machinery.Mercedes_Angelholm-105.jpg2.27 MB

The vendor describes the car as being in very nice condition following its restoration
As the photographs attest, this is an immensely smart car, with straight bodywork, glossy paint and shiny chrome. As one would expect for a car of this age, there is some very minor wear apparent upon close inspection, with slight pitting on the bumper overriders and a few very slight marks visible upon (very close) inspection. The interior presents impeccably, and we're informed that the upholstery was replaced in its entirety during the restoration.
Mechanical systems have all been restored, according to the vendor
The vendor informs us that this car's mechanicals have been comprehensively overhauled, and it is therefore reported to drive very well. All presents exceedingly well under the bonnet and appears highly original.Mercedes_Angelholm-212.jpg2.95 MB
