The Appeal
It's fair to say that the ever-eccentric mind of Colin Chapman produced some of the nation's best-loved sports cars, but none are quite so synonymous with the Lotus marque as the legendary Elan. These featherweight, fibreglass-bodied roadsters redefined what a driver-focused yet eminently affordable sports car could be. It was all due to a backbone chassis with independent suspension and a hearty, charismatic twin-cam powerplant - a bona fide, dynamic car that defied the price tag.
This 1963 example, finished in Lotus Lemon Yellow, has been in the same family for an impressive 56 years, offering a depth of provenance that is increasingly hard to find. Rather than being tucked away, it has been used and enjoyed regularly since its restoration. Thoughtful upgrades have been made over the years, and we understand that it's ready and waiting to be driven away. IMG_7055 Chris Hawkins.jpeg5 MB
