The Appeal
Introduced as a diversifying effort, the Porsche 912 was intended to bridge the gap between their venerable 356 and the brand new 911 - the latter of which had quite the steep price point compared to its predecessor. As a result, the company introduced this - the 912. Intended as an entry point to the new lineage, it was nimble, efficient and economic - and for many, as a result, was a much more practical car to own than the somewhat more frenetic 911 it was displayed alongside.
When it was released, it came as the 3-dial - though five instruments were an option - and it's this that marks the early examples of the much-loved car. As a result, this particular 3-dial 912 is bound to attract plenty of interest. It's an impressive, very original car, treated to plenty of investment and now coming to us in particularly handsome order.
This matching numbers car has seen a full engine rebuild and a professional repaint, and by all accounts is now ready and waiting to impress its lucky new owner.
Recently professionally repainted, including the underside and front boot area
Imposing black livery, perfectly suiting the car's lines
Windows have been lightly tinted
The vendor reports that the car is free from corrosion
We'd recommend a close inspection of the photos, but it's certainly a fine example
Very much like the 911, the 912 is a masterclass in stylish, understated and attractive design. There's a real purity to the 912, with bug-eye lights and the car's distinctive fastback creating a very handsome mid-century silhouette. Our example is particularly handsome - it's been fully repainted to a very high standard, and from what we can discern the bodywork is all straight and true.
Sat atop a handsome colour-matched steel wheelset and contrasted by handsome brightwork, this car really is a fabulous looker, and we've no doubt it'll prove quite a headturner when it's out on the road.
Refurbished dashboard with added USB functionality
Discreet soundbar installed under the dashboard
Steering wheel refurbished with new centre cap
Window seals all around appear in very good condition
Carpets and seats appear in very good condition
Discretely upgraded for modern comforts, and still incredibly evocative, this black cabin is very well tended to, with the namesake three dials capturing the eye and lulling the driver into a world when a Porsche was a truly fine art. The carpets and seats look well-kept, the dash is refurbished, and we can't discern any perished seals.
It's a comfortable place for driver and passenger alike - and we think this interior ticks all of the boxes.
Engine fully rebuilt by Porsche specialist Pie Performance
New clutch installed during engine rebuild
Engine currently being run in, with 500-mile service and re-tune pending
Brand new distributor fitted
New Weber carburettors professionally tuned
The 912 is still celebrated for being agile and effortlessly fun to drive. While that spec is very much rooted in the '60s, it's still capable of impressive performance and is perfectly fitted for roaming twisty B-roads and the National Speed Limit. This particular example has seen a comprehensive rebuild and retune, with a new distributor and new Weber carbs.
If you've never experienced a 912's charisma from the driver's seat, this is a great opportunity. MZ009673.jpg25.33 MB
