The Appeal
The word ‘moped’ is likely to conjure up associations with Quadrophenia, or a holiday to Italy. It’s perhaps less likely to bring to mind an image of a ‘pedal and pop’ – a motorbike and bicycle hybrid, which became popular throughout the Sixties and served as the decade’s equivalent of today’s e-bikes.
While Testi were best known for manufacturing motorbikes between the 1950s and 1980s, they had previously spent two decades producing bicycles.
The combined fruits of this heritage led to remarkable vehicles like the Testi Z Turismo, designed in 1962 and blending a 38cc petrol engine with foot pedals incorporating classic yellow reflectors. Mechanically similar models were rebadged and sold in the UK as Kerry Capitano, but this is an original Italian Testi. The Z Turismo is unusual in having a rounded fuel tank and lower handlebars than other Testi models, making it a true collector’s item.

This particular vehicle has remained almost entirely unmodified over the last 57 years. It is presented to market with only two previous owners, and according to the DVLA, it had just one registered keeper between 1968 and 2025. The lightweight frame and mechanical components feature the patina and rust you’d expect on a vehicle approaching its 60th birthday. It’s still possible to read the original serial numbers stamped into components and the tubular chassis, while an embossed Made In Italy roundel caps the headlight module.
