The Appeal
The W114 is one of the rarest kinds of saloon—one that, when new, could handle both the corporate parking lot and the taxi-rank queue. Or, today, as these photos show, it lines up outside smart hotels or alongside some modern street art. Wherever it goes, there’s something about Paul Bracq’s timeless lines that gives it presence, style, and appeal in any setting.
That’s especially true of this car, thanks to its grey paint and red interior—an especially striking combination. It’s a really tidy, pre-facelift example, with those double bumpers and classic stack headlights. The cabin is a real treat: acres of red leatherette, with matching dashboard and carpets, looking smart and appearing to be largely original.
The vendor acquired the car in 2023. They tell us there’s a large history file documenting regular attention. The recent mechanical work has been thorough; the twin carburettors have been ultrasonically cleaned and re-tuned, a new bespoke stainless-steel exhaust has been fitted, and the car has been serviced with fresh fluids, new engine mounts, a refurbished starter motor, and new tyres. The vendor says the engine now runs beautifully and describes the car as a real head-turner. From the photos, we’d agree.

✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do, and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorcycles for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic, and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status, and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
