The Appeal
The Karmann Ghia is, at its core, a deceptively simple proposition - but it’s still a total head-turner. A collaboration between Italian design house Ghia and German coachbuilder Karmann, these cars stand out for their glamorous, svelte proportions - but underneath, it’s a familiar set of components pulled from the ever-practical, ever-reliable Volkswagen Beetle. Gorgeous looks and solid, dependable mechanicals - it’s a winning formula.
This 1971 example has benefited from significant investment over the years. Restored and modified in 2004, with photographic documentation of the work, it was later lowered and fitted with a manual gearbox. The engine was rebuilt in 2020 under the current owner’s care, and additional restoration was carried out in 2023. Recently serviced, with wiring work completed and a new battery fitted, the seller reports that it starts and drives well, with the rebuilt engine feeling strong.
Having been stored for a period, this stunning Karmann Ghia is now offered for sale due to the owner’s change in circumstances, and it’s looking for a new custodian with the space to enjoy it.image.png4.32 MB
