1972 Porsche 914/4

Vendor supplied images

Highlights

  • Fully resprayed from bare metal in 2023
  • Running a brand new set of 40 IDF Weber carburettors and Bluetooth 123 electronic ignition
  • New seats and door cards handcrafted by the owner's wife
  • Comprehensive history file with extensive paperwork

The Appeal

The Porsche 914/4 is a criminally under-appreciated gem in the classic Porsche lineup.

Mid-engined and blessed with an exceedingly short wheelbase, these cars handle superbly and are immense fun to drive. This 1972 example benefits from a recent bare metal respray, the fitment of new Weber carbs and a modern 123 electronic ignition system with Bluetooth control. The interior has also received attention, with new seats and door cards handcrafted by the vendor's wife.

While it does reportedly require professional tuning and balancing of the new Webers, it presents a fantastic opportunity for the next owner to enjoy a classic Porsche that's rapidly growing in popularity.

History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1972
  • Comprehensive history file with extensive paperwork
  • MOT valid until May 2025
  • SORN and stored in a garage for the past year
  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
  • 71,890 miles indicated

The Condition

  • Bodywork looks in very good order with just a few small imperfections
  • Stripped back to bare metal and resprayed in 2023
  • The vendor points out a scratch on the driver's B pillar - but this is not especially noticeable
  • Straight and solid-looking bodywork
  • The Targa roof section appears to fit well and detaches correctly
  • Interior presents well for its age, with new seats and door cards
  • Equipped with aftermarket alloy wheels which complement the paint scheme
  • Controls, switches, and instrumentation present well and are reportedly functional

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre air-cooled flat-four
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Brand new set of Twin 40 IDF Webers fitted
  • We're informed that the carbs require setting up and professionally balancing/tuning
  • As it is still SORN, the vendor has not driven the car extensively since it was taken out of storage, but reports that it runs and manoeuvres without any obvious issues
