The Appeal
The Sinpar-converted Renault 4 is among the most charismatic and sought-after derivatives of France's beloved workhorse. Fitted with a robust four-wheel-drive system by the specialist firm Sinpar, these diminutive machines were built to tackle terrain far beyond the reach of the standard car, and they remain exceptionally rare survivors today.
This particular example, model R1123, had its Sinpar conversion completed on 30 May 1972 - a fortnight before its first registration on 8 June that year. Its earliest paperwork on file is a 1988 service invoice from a garage near the Pyrenees in southern France, and by 2007, it had moved north of Toulouse, where a restoration was undertaken. It has since passed through further hands in northern France and the UK before arriving at its current Irish registration.
The vendor reports that the older restoration still presents and drives well, and the car has benefited from significant recent mechanical attention. Kitted out with a cabriolet roof, 13-inch Delta Mics wheels on all-terrain tyres, off-road bumpers, and a side exit exhaust, it cuts a purposeful figure that maintains the Renault 4's handsome continental lines.image.png1.71 MB
