The Appeal
The C2 is from that glorious time in the 70s when executive saloons were all about understated three-box styling. Looking at the photos of this 1977 example, it looks simple and timeless in a way modern cars simply don’t and won’t.
Beneath the conventional lines Audi’s engineers delivered some proper innovation, notably the 5-pot 2.1L inline engine and the clever ‘4+E’ gearbox that was, literally, geared towards economy. Despite high build quality, few of these cars survive, which is why the arrival of this example is so welcome.
It is a really good car, thanks to a recent respray in the stand-out original bronze metallic finish. The vendor acquired the car in 2020 and tells us that the 84,000 kms displayed on the odometer is correct. The condition of the interior certainly supports that. He has expended considerable sums on the car since purchase. Alongside the repaint it benefits from a new timing belt, water pump, steering rack, heater, shock absorbers and radiator.
For 70s enthusiasts in search of some cool, understated saloon car motoring, look no further.
The vendor says:
“A very nice and dynamic car, perfect for long trips. I've driven it for about 8,000 kilometres without any problems. It's got that '70s vibe and is a pleasure to travel with.”
