The Appeal
With Renault belatedly paying modern tribute to one of its greatest models, the 4, there’s no better time to discover what all the fuss is about. The original ‘Quatrelle’ was Renault’s answer to the 2CV, a more conventionally-styled and practical alternative with an innovative rear hatch.
This Spanish-registered 4TL is a 1987 car with the later 1.1L engine. We’re told that it has had just three keepers. The last one completed the makeover you see in the photos, a cheeky reference to the Camel Trophy in which boxy Land Rovers competed. It sports cream and brown trim with some amusing extras like the roof rack, extra roof lights and external fuel tank.
We’re told that the car is highly original and has never been welded. The interior, a plush version fitted to later cars, is in very good order. The car also comes with useful Spanish technical inspection. A really distinctive classic that is surely to attract attention and start conversations wherever it goes.
