The Appeal
Now 73 years old, the legendary Volkswagen Transporter has certainly moved with the times and undoubtedly earned a reputation as the versatile ‘go-to’ van of choice for many around the globe.
The sixth generation Transporter (as we have here), continues this tradition and offers a stylish
body and comfortable cab. The well designed and ergonomic driver controls feel natural and make this van very easy to drive.
This stunning and well-specced SWB variant is the desirable highline model and sports the torquey 2.0-litre turbo-diesel power-plant.
Commissioned by the current owner, the professional conversion was undertaken by HVR Customs in late 2020 and features a Sportline bodykit, lowered suspension and 20” alloys. Inside, the high quality conversion continues with a fully lined and insulated interior, swivel front passenger seats and a full width bed. The list of features goes on…

This T28 was supplied new from the Volkswagen Van Centre in Liverpool and subsequently purchased from HVR Customs, Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire, by the current owner.
It is correctly registered as a light goods van with side windows. The owner informs us that the private registration is not included in the sale and the awning and tent (pictured) are available at an additional negotiable cost.
A reluctant sale, the owner and self-confessed petrol head is selling simply due to lack of use.
The Interior

Stepping aboard, we find the factory specification cab is a very pleasant place to be and has clearly been well looked after.
The instrumentation and switchgear is all in good condition, and commensurate with the mileage, there is a little wear to the leather multi-control steering wheel and to the gear knob. Being picky there are a few tiny scuffs to the dash and steps, but nothing to detract the eye.
Features include cruise control, air conditioning, electric windows, heated electric mirrors, central locking, driver and passenger airbags and an infotainment system with DAB radio, CD/DVD, Bluetooth audio and telephone connectivity.
The excellent front seats have been re-covered in Faux leather with red GTi centre cloth to match the rear. The two passenger seats swivel. The roof lining and door trims are in great condition and ’Sportline’ over mats cover the rubber flooring.
The flexible rear space has been fully insulated and lined. A mint Vanmax pop top is installed along with two fixed side windows and windows to the rear barn doors. Neat sliding curtains are also attached.
A full width Rusty Lee (crashed tested) rock and roll bed easily converts from three seats and provides a very comfortable sleeping space. A split controller, leisure battery and electrical hook- up power the internal spot lights, a usb and 12v socket and T.V.

On the outside, this Transporter looks superb from every angle. The crisp lines are set off beautifully by the white paintwork, Sportline trim and low stance.
The glossy white paintwork has no obvious dings or significant scratches, just one or two expected marks at sill level. Colour coded front and rear Sportline spoilers, a red grille trim and upgraded front lighting look the biz’ and the tinted privacy windows, gloss black Riviera alloys and red painted callipers complete the picture.
The heated windscreen, mirrors, automatic lights, badges and trim are all in very good order. Front and rear parking sensors and a detachable tow bar and electrics are fitted as well as a ‘drive-away’ awning/tent attachment. A thermal wraparound windscreen cover is also included.
Peering underneath we can see a clean structure and floor free from any significant corrosion.

This T28 is powered by the 2.0-litre four cylinder turbo-diesel producing around 102 bhp. Considered very reliable, it incorporates Blue Motion Technology to improve fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Fluid and filter changes have been undertaken by local garages during the present ownership with the last service carried out in June 2023 at 72,347 miles.
A new toothed belt and water pump were fitted in 2020 and the 20” wheels were shod with four Invovic EL601 tyres in February 2023, around 2,000 miles ago.
As you would hope from a six year old vehicle, the owner confirms that it starts and runs very well with no known mechanical faults. The steering, suspension and ventilated disc brakes are also said to function efficiently.
Summary
As a commercial or camper, the popular Volkswagen Transporter is known for it’s great build quality and refined performance, and as with other classic VW’s, the ’T’ also attracts a cult following these days.
This expertly converted van is in great condition and makes a practical everyday vehicle or adaptable weekend/holiday camping bus for the whole family to enjoy.
