The Appeal
The 124 Abarth is something special, a delicately balanced sports car with great handling and a punchy 168bhp turbocharged engine. Each version was completed by Abarth at its Turin works. The Abarth 124GT dials things up with a raft of special features, including a carbon fibre hard top, sonorous Record Monza exhaust, Alcantara interior trim and Bose sound.
The vendor believes that just 50 124 GTs were sold in the UK, with just 15 manual gearbox cars like this one remaining. Online research tends to support this. This car eschews the more shouty sports car red in favour of a much more subtle and tasteful all-black finish, which includes both roofs, the 17in 124GT alloys and a two-tone interior. The car is in very good condition thanks to its enthusiast keepers and low mileage. It remains factory standard.
The vendor acquired the car in 2023. He tells us that the timing belt was changed 1,000 miles ago by a Fiat Abarth main dealer. The service book shows a run of main dealer stamps to 2023 and 18,419 miles. The MOT runs to January 2027 with no advisories.
The vendor says:
“This is a beautiful car in every sense. A perfect balance of weight distribution and rear wheel drive makes for great handling. Italian styling on a great chassis (shares with the MX-5), sounds like a V8, with 46 miles or so to the gallon. Fun, usable, gorgeous to look at, and super rare- a future classic.”
