Right then I am selling this on behalf of my mother as they have recently bought a large camper van and something has to go.
My mum bought the car from a Doctor owner from Birmingham who travelled to Wolfsburg to pick the car up from the factory back in 1983, he told us that he had paid £500 on top of the list price to have the 5-speed option fitted before delivery, the car also came to us without a radio ever being fitted during it's 26 year life.
(the doctor was an excellent whistler)
The car is in good condition for 26 years old and only covering 93000 miles, there is no service history with the car but the doctor told us it was serviced every year without fail, I have also recently fully serviced the golf and fitted a few parts inc. gear linkage bushes. The car drives perfectly and is very economical being a 1. 6 diesel, starts great even on these cold mornings. I have fitted a c. d. player using genuine rear speakers in the rear shelves to preserve originality, also a centre consule, four button steering wheel, and newly refurbed 9-spoke mk1 gti alloys (5 of) and new tyres, and a new front pipe exhaust c/ w clamps and sealing ring.
The car has 11 months M. O. T. and 5 months tax.
This car is an excellent base for what was going to be a restoration project to show standard but due to a change in circumstances we have to regrettably let it go, as you will know there are not a lot of good ones left.
The car has a few paint blemishes and a small hole in the drivers bolster but otherwise very good but really has to be viewed.
