These wonderful, sought-after cars rarely come up for sale. Being the 2. 5 litre it is far superior bigger and much better to drive than the under powered 1. 5 litre, with only 6900 produced between its launch in 1946 and its replacement in 1952 by the RMF it is a rare classic much worth a second look
This is an unmolested and unrestored example. It has been used on a semi regular basis and has loads of old MOT certs. It is currently taxed to August 2010 (free anyway) and MOT tested to end of August 2010 too.
The actual bodywork is completely sound with no serious rust or rot; just some blemishes here and there as you might expect of a car this age. The paintwork is dull in places and commensurate with the age of the car. Both front wings have been repainted at some stage.
The underside is totally rock solid with no rot or nasty surprises. As far as I can make out, it has never been welded underneath and certainly doesn’t need any welding. The only rust issues that will need attention are four small places just above the sills in each corner of the car.
The interior is good but the seats could do with a nourish. I have resisted the urge to apply some leather nutrients as I wish to leave it just as is so that prospective purchasers can see it all in its natural state.
The ash frame is perfectly solid and sound.
The roof covering is, I think, original and is in remarkably good shape.
Mechanically it is truly superb. The engine fires into life almost instantly when cold and instantly when warm. The oil pressure is incredible. The engine literally purrs when ticking over and roars beautifully when throttle is applied. I recently drove it on a 140 mile trip and it went like a bird. The gearbox too is fabulous with no nasty nicks or grates and gear changes are as smooth as silk with synchro on all gears except first.
There are no nasty whines, rattles or knocks and this car is an absolute joy to drive.
I have tried to describe this as accurately as possible but please come and view to assess the great condition of this iconic, classic car; I am certain you will not be disappointed and at just £7000 represents an absolute bargain. These cars can easily fetch £17000 in restored condition.
Please understand that this car will need some light restoration although you might wish to keep it as it is because the general patina is truly joyous! It does not need any mechanical work as there are no mechanical faults.
