The Appeal
In the interwar years, Riley fielded a confusing array of cars, but they were all united by a common character: advanced engineering and sleek styling. Key to the appeal of these quick cars was the clever OHV 4-cylinder engine with its hemispherical chambers, giving the cars perky performance compared to their more mundane rivals.
This 1931 lightweight Tourer is likely one of the last fabric-bodied cars to leave the works before the shift towards more conventional aluminium construction. It is a really tidy car, fetchingly trimmed in dark green with black cycle wings and green leather, with lighter green spoked wheels completing the picture. We're told that it has spent much of its life in France and also with well-known Riley enthusiast Roger Simkins.
Now back in the UK and presenting well, this is a well-presented example of these clever cars.

This is a special, not a genuine tourer. It started life as a Biarritz saloon!
