The Appeal
Erling Poppe conceived the S7 as a ‘de-Germanised’ BMW R75 with car-like qualities, thanks in part to its inline engine. Early versions were over-engineered and troublesome, leading to the 1949 introduction of this bike, the ‘Deluxe.’ Improved front suspension, better vibration control, and cooling make this later bike the proper BMW-bashing ‘gentleman’s tourer’ Poppe envisaged.
This 1953 example has been previously restored and benefits from a fresh respray in attractive Mist Green. It is said to run and ride well and has been regularly and recently serviced. It also has a handy alternator conversion, with the original dynamo supplied. Garage-stored, it presents well and comes with a selection of spare parts.
