The Appeal

The S7 was loosely based on the pre-war BMW R75, and it wowed post-war British buyers. This big ‘gentleman’s tourer’ with its distinctive ‘balloon’ tyres aimed to deliver car-like comfort and luxury with two-wheeled economy.

The Deluxe, introduced in 1949, fixed some of the rushed original's shortcomings, offering improved suspension and handling and a more reliable 487cc parallel twin. It was expensive, which helps explain why only 5,554 were built over seven years. This smart black example was originally despatched to Canada, before returning here in 2016. We’re told a previous keeper restored it, evidently to a high standard judging by the photos.

The vendor describes it as a lovely bike to ride, and the exterior presents well. Distinctive, characterful and rare, this S7 is worth a closer look.
