The Appeal
’57 was the final year of Ford’s original ‘personal luxury’ coupe. It picked up revised bumpers and bigger fins, while retaining the simple, understated look that’s made these early cars so enduringly popular.
This ’57 Thunderbird keeps its original H-code 245bhp 312CI V8, but it’s been treated to a stack of nice upgrades that improve performance and reliability. We’ve listed them below and they include Edelbrock intake and valve cover components, a full MSD ignition setup, tube headers, and an aluminium radiator fan. It left the factory with the smooth Ford-O-Matic optional gearbox and a handy folding soft top, which we’re told has recently been renewed. It also retains its optional Kelsey-Hayes wire wheel covers running on white-banded tyres.
The car now wears a great-looking white paint finish, which appears to be the result of that earlier restoration. Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed to match, now featuring well-kept blue with white trim.
The charm of the original Thunderbird is just how usable and driveable it remains today. This is a neatly presented example in a desirable colour combo, with the sought-after larger factory V8.
