The Appeal
‘57 was the final year of Ford’s original ‘personal luxury’ coupe. It gained revised bumpers and larger fins, while keeping the clean, understated style that’s made these early cars so enduringly popular.
This ‘57 Thunderbird retains its original H-code 245bhp 312CI V8, but with a number of tasty improvements that boost its performance and reliability. We’ve listed them below and they include an Edelbrock intake and valve cover components, a full MSD ignition system, tube headers, and an aluminium radiator fan. It left the factory with the smooth Ford-O-Matic optional gearbox and a practical folding soft top, which we are told has been recently renewed. It also retains its optional Kelsey-Hayes wire wheel covers, mounted on white-banded tyres.
The car now wears a lovely white paint finish, which appears to be the result of an older restoration. Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed to match, now featuring well-kept blue with white trim.
The charm of the original Thunderbird is that it remains so usable and enjoyable to drive today. This is a nicely presented example in a desirable color scheme, with the sought-after larger factory V8.
