The appeal
The Renault 4 CV holds a special place in French motoring history: it helped motorise post-war France. This 1957 example has added interest thanks to its Ferlec semi-automatic clutch, a rare option that sets it apart from the vast majority of surviving cars. Described as being in its original configuration, this charming little Renault has stayed in the same family since 2000, when the seller's parents bought it directly from its first owner.
The paintwork was redone before that purchase, and the upholstery and interior trim were subsequently refreshed. The key mechanical components, including the electrical system, carburettion, Ferlec clutch and braking system, are said to have been serviced by a professional. With matching numbers and a history that includes various invoices, this 4 CV is an interesting example of one of France's most iconic post-war cars.

BEFORE YOU BUY
This sale is subject to the Car & Classic terms and conditions. By bidding and/or making an offer, you also agree to the following:
✓ The seller is registered as a private seller, which means consumer rights under European consumer protection legislation do not apply. However, you remain covered by the Car & Classic terms and conditions.
✓ We require non-refundable fees to be paid if you are the successful bidder or if your offer is accepted. Please refer to our FAQs and terms and conditions for the specific rates.
✓ This vehicle is "sold as is", on a "as is, where is" basis and without warranty. Photos and descriptions are provided for guidance only, and it is standard practice to carry out a full inspection of the vehicle before purchase for your own peace of mind.
✓ VAT is included in the buyer's deposit. VAT may or may not be included in the final offer or bid price, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want the transaction to go smoothly for you as much as for us, which is why UK-registered cars and motorcycles listed on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to confirm they carry no insurance database markers for damage or theft and are not subject to a finance lien, so you can bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as written off following a total loss at the time the listing is placed on Car & Classic, and we provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. The presence or absence of a label does not, however, guarantee the vehicle's status, and it is always worthwhile carrying out a full vehicle history check before making an offer on it.
✓ Buyers are responsible for collecting or arranging delivery of the vehicle. Importing vehicles may incur additional customs duties and import taxes. If you wish, we can recommend a third-party transport company that can help. For more details, or to speak with the team, email auctions@carandclassic.com.
