The Appeal

The original Grantura set the template for all future TVRs. Small, light and nimble, it naturally found its place on the world's race tracks, where it proved to be a serious giant killer. Just 400 MkIIAs were built, and this 1961 car is one of the handful to make its way overseas, in this case to Canada.
The current FIA Historic specification builds on its conversion to a race car in the USA in the 1980s. It has competed at venues including Road Atlanta, Goodwood, where it took part in the 2014 St Mary's Trophy, and Spa with the Masters series, as well as various UK circuits and hillclimbs in France. The current keeper completed the work after acquiring the car in 2017, with renowned specialist CCK Historic. This included fitting a period-correct engine, refitting the rare Derrington crossflow head, repairing the chassis and overhauling the rear suspension. It is currently set up for rallying, and its FIA Historic Technical Passport opens the door to prestigious events such as Le Mans Classic, the Spa 6 Hours, the Goodwood Revival and Rallye Monte Carlo Historique.
With history dating back to the 1980s and a current FIA Historic Passport valid to 2027, this is a great opportunity to acquire a fully prepared and very capable track racer.
The vendor says:
"The TVR Grantura is the ideal car to enter into historic racing, rallying or hillclimbing. The car is eligible for Le Mans Classic, Spa 6hrs, Goodwood Revival, Rallye Monte Carlo Historique, Tulip Rallye or any of the pre-66 race series or HERO rallies. The car is fun to drive. It's not the fastest car on track, but it's stable and predictable. A great car for any kind of motorsport, be it rallying, hill climbing or outright racing. Because of its looks and size, it always attracts people. It would make a rewarding companion for competitive events or spirited weekend drives, offering an engaging analogue driving experience and lots of fun."

The vendor says:
"Built in 1961/1962 at the TVR Blackpool facility and sold to Shelton Mansell Motors in Toronto (TVR dealer in Canada). This is an original LHD car that spent most of its life in North America before being re-imported into the UK in 2013/14. Previous owners can be traced back to about mid-1985. It was developed into a race car by a previous owner in the late 1980s and has been raced in Canada and the US (Road Atlanta, VSCC). It was raced at Goodwood (2014 St Mary's Trophy), and by the current owner at Spa (Masters), various circuits in the UK (CSCC, Equipe Classic), and hillclimbed in France.
"I acquired the car in 2017 and completed the rebuild to FIA specifications in 2018/2019. The car was mechanically rebuilt and is looked after by CCK Historic (engine, Derrington head, chassis, rear suspension). It is powered by a period-correct MGA 1588cc inline-four engine, equipped with a rare gas-flowed Derrington crossflow cylinder head, Weber carburettors and an MGA gearbox. It complies with FIA racing regulations (Tillett FIA race seats, 6-point harness, FIA-compliant full roll cage and plumbed-in fire extinguisher). The car comes with a current FIA Historical passport (Period E, pre-1962), making it eligible for all major historic race and rally events (i.e. Le Mans Classic, Spa 6hrs, Goodwood, Rallye Monte Carlo Historique, Tulip Rallye). The car is currently set up for rallying with period-correct Terratrip and intercom, plus a light bar on the bonnet."
